TitleLetter from John Herschel, [station] XXXVIII, to [Mary Cornwallis Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer
Date21-22 April 1872
DescriptionHerschel explains his confusion on Mary's movements and missed posts. Her note of 15 April, referring to her illness, gave him a fright. He notes his actions in telegraphing and to enquire after letters at Bangalore, which she may now have. His telegram to Ottacamund has not been answered, so it may not have found her there and he asks why Mary has not telegraphed him. [From 22 April] He has one more night's work done, and has three left. His arrangements will enable him to hand over charge in a few hours and begin his railway journey.
