The clergyman was depressing, but the church was pretty with greenery and flowers. The Gunnings pressed her to tiffin and the Davises to dinner, but she spent Christmas alone and quietly. She has been reading Bishop Heber's Indian journals and gives an account of them. They have had heavy rains overnight and little sunshine, and so she is not tempted to go exploring. |
