Her last letter was written while feverish, but that ended quickly, and Esther is better. Mary's shoulder pain has returned and she has used the 'injector' [hypodermic needle] but there is something wrong with the morphia, and she has sent for more. She often looks over his letters for any to send home, but she thinks he would not like to have most read by others. She would like to return to the woods by Lady Canning's Seat, but not in company. She has reports of their tenants and she can only hope they are exaggerated. Captain Lindsay's railway works are disallowed, the Indian Government having spent £12,000 in preparation; Lindsay is adrift and will go to Ooty. She hopes he will be able to speak with the Rogers. Mary asks him to note any speeches by Mr Gray in Belfast or Dublin, as he has written to 'The Times' on female education. There is much excitement about tigers, and Mr Vipon has shot one near Willington. |
