DescriptionHe left Uncle Charles and Aunt Jemima [Charles Calder Stewart and Jemima Stewart] after a happy three days. William gives and account of a question-and-answer oral examination at the Presbyterian School, culminating with questions about an astronomer born in Hanover. He describes a visit to a bleaching factory 'what with Nasmyth hammers and muriatic acid the poor linen gets torn & stamped into a substance more like paper'. He will see the Thomsons tomorrow, travelling to Bedale, then for Slough, before returning to Collingwood. He waits to hear news of his mother.
