Description | William has applied for a change of appointment to Rampur Beauleah [Rampur Boalia] as there is not enough work for him where he is. His work at Malda has been irregular and dependent upon the magistrate, who seems more disposed to be open now that William is going. He hopes to stay another month, therefore, as there is some collecting work laid out for him and he will accompany Craster for a week to see his work. William would like some idea of the settlements before he goes to his own, in Rajshahi. He cannot recall if he mentioned in his letter to Alick that he had been 'plucked' [failed his examination]; none of the men in the term above William, including [William] Waterfield and Chapman, have passed. Watrefield failed in languages, while William passed in his; in law, Waterfield passed and William failed. He gives thanks for letters, and describes his health, with his uncle's opinions. He encloses collodion process photographs [not present]. |
