TitleLetter from J A [Joseph Alfred] Hardcastle, The Dial House, Crowthorne, Berkshire, to 'Dear Uncle Willie' [Sir William James Herschel]
CreatorHardcastle; Joseph Alfred (1868-1917); British astronomer
Date29 January 1910
DescriptionHe is returning the 'Parsons' letters but keeping the Bath papers for now. There will be a meeting of representatives of the Royal Society and Royal Astronomical Society on Thursday. Hardcastle will mention the Bath papers, but he is not in a position to say if the seven electrical papers are historically interesting. There is one on an occultation of Gamma virginis which should be repronted, he thinks, while the one on Priestley and light may be worthy of reproduction. He has had to take back his promise to John [Herschel] at least saying that he must consult Dr Whitelocke at Oxford. Last night's comet was grand [the Great January Comet C/1910 A1] and he describes its appearence.
