Title | Letter from 'Fancy' [Francisca Herschel], Observatory House, Slough, to 'Dearest Willy' [Sir William James Herschel] |
Creator | Herschel; Francisca (1846-1932); British |
Date | 12 June 1910 |
Description | She gives thanks for Johnny [John Herschel] and the family for allowing them to see the progress on 'this good purpose' [the republication of William Herschel's papers]. It was just over a century ago that the old 40-foot telescope was considered 'hors de combat'. She is ready to search for more telescope making volumes if required. Alfred's judgement [J A Hardcastle] seems capable in the matter and Sir William's letter to the committee reads very well. She thanks him for his little note. She has send 50 guineas to the Nursing Endowment Fund started by him, and by Lady Hooker. The last £10 may be claimed from the original proposer, to make the fund up to £100. |
