TitleCorrespondence with John Nye and data concerning the advance and retreat of glaciers
Date1964-1965
DescriptionCollection of correspondence between John Nye, John Tukey, Gunnar Ostrem, Tore Gjelsvik and Olav Liestol. Nye was researching the 'relation between the advance and retreat of glaciers and the changes in climate that cause them'. For this he was using published data regarding outlet glaciers in Norway flowing from Jostedalsbreen, Folgegonno, Svartisen and Styggedalsbreen. There is also reference in the correspondence to 'the question of fourteen glaciers' and the '14 glacier problems'. Much of the correspondence relates to various queries and clarifications Nye was seeking regarding the published data, as well as requests for current measurements. The folder includes graphs, maps, and manuscript notes, some written by Nye and others forwarded to him by his correspondents, and a collection of Liestol's reprints concerning glaciers.
