Title | Correspondence between Dr Alfred Fishman and Sir John Vane |
Date | 14 December 1984 - 2 December 1985 |
Description | Dr Fishman was Director of the Cardiovascular Pulmonary Division at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His work involved research into prostaglandins, and he was also an advocate of animal experimentation. The correspondence in this file refers to a paper about animal experimentation and possible alternatives by Stevens, which appeared in 'Nature' and which both men consider to be 'dangerous' (December 1984); Dr Fishman's research into the endothelial surface (December 1984); the possibility of holding a joint meeting on animal experimentation in either London or Cambridge (February 1985); Sir John Vane's offer of possible access to 'a trial of continuous infusion of prostacyclin in a patient with primary pulmonary hypertension' (March 1985); and Dr Fishman's request that Sir John Vane write a piece for the new journal of the International Union of Physiological Sciences, November 1985. |
