Distinguished for his numerous scientific contributions (extending over the past 25 years), particularly in the domain of organic chemistry in which he has covered a wide range of subjects. Besides thus materially advancing knowledge, great credit is due to him for completing the establishment of a flourishing school of chemistry in the University of Adelaide and for his activities in matters of national importance appertaining to chemistry in South Australia.
