Formerly (1917-1919) Acting-Professor of Chemistry, Queen's University, Belfast; (1920-24) Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, University of St Andrews; (1924-27) Reader in Chemistry, University of Durham. Distinguished for his numerous scientific contributions (extending over the past 25 years), particularly in the domain of organic chemistry in which he has covered a wide range of subjects. Besides thus materially advancing knowledge, great credit is due to him for completing the establishment of a flourishing school of chemistry in the University of Adelaide and for his activities in matters of national importance appertaining to chemistry in South Australia.
