Citation | Pugh, William John (Manchester), O.B.E., B.A., D.Sc., F.G.S. Professor of Geology, Victoria University of Manchester. Has made important contributions to the stratigraphy, palaeontology and tectonics of Wales. He has personally mapped in great dretail nearly one hundred square miles of Central and North Wales, and his maps have set a very high standard of work in these difficult rocks. He has trained many research workers in mapping other areas, and has closely supervised their work. Some of his early contributions were in collabortion with Professor O T Jones. Results publlished mainly by Geological Society of London and Geologists Association. Has made an interesting study of the post-glacial shell-marl deposits in Montgomeryshire.
