Citation | Hartley, Gilbert Spencer (London). Lecturer in Chemisty. Dr Hartley has played a large part in advancing our knowledge of colloidal electrolytes and of the conditions which govern equilibria between ions and micelles. His studies of the solvent action of detergent solutions and of the influence of molecular structure of wetting and detergent agents have both academic and technical value. This work has involved the development of new methods for measuring transport numbers and rates of diffusion. The striking discovery of cis-azobenzene was a direct consequence of the elaboration of a new light-absorption method for measuring the solvent action of detergent solutions. |
