Citation | Ritchie, James (Edinburgh). Professor of Natural History. Distinguished especially for (10 his contributions to our knowledge of the Hydroid Zoophytes, of which he has described important collections from many parts of the world ; (2) his knowledge of the fauna, mores especially the vertebrate fauna, of Scotland, which he has studied in its ecological, historical, and economic aspect (see especially his 'Influence of Man on Animal Life in Scotland' , 1920). He is recognised as an authority on the application of biological principles to the conservation of wild life. As teacher and as editor for many years of the 'Scottish Naturalist', he has done much to stimulate and maintain interest in scientific Zoology in Scotland. A list of books and papers is appended. |
