Citation | Thompson, Harod Warris (Oxford). Fellow of St. John's college, Oxford. Distinguished for his work on chemical kinetics and the spectroscopy of molecules. Contributed important discoveries on the reactions of complex molecules and on explosive reactions. Was the first to investigate from the point of view of the branching chain theory the ractions of oxygen with, inter alia, carbon bisulphide, hydrogen sulphide and the zinc alkyls. His studies of spectra have thrown light on the relations between spectral character and photochemical behaviour, and led to the determination of numerous force constraints. Has discovered a simplified form of analysis applicable to such structural problems. |
