Citation | Tul;loch, William John (Angus). O.B.E., M.D. Bacteriologist. William J Tulloch has been an outstanding observer of the phenomena of immunity in bacterial and viral diseases. His work on the typing of the tetanus bacillus, the mechanism of agglutination, bovine and avian tubercle bacilli, analysis of flocculation of viruses by antiserum and on the determination of infection with influenza virus by complement fixation have illuminated these subjects. In addition he is responsible for many valuable practical applications, the most notable being the laboratory diagnosis of smallpox by flocculation methods. The foregoing have been combined with vast amounts of directly useful diagnostic bacteriological work of a very high order. |
