Citation | Scott, David Aylmer (Toronto). Dr Scott made several significant contributions while working on the preparation of insulin in 1922 and 1923. Subsequently he showed that the crystals of insulin are the zinc salt of the protein. This discovery simplified the preparation of crystalline insulin and greatly advanced the study of the chemistry of insulin. Dr Scott (with Dr Albert Fisher) was responsible for the preparation of protamine zinc insulin. He also developed (with Dr Arthur Charles) an excellent method for the preparation of heparin and was successful in obtaining crystals of this substance as the barium salt. |
