DescriptionComputations of tides by calendar month at London Dock, calculated by E Russell. The volume contains hourly tables of upper and lower [high and low] tides for the years 1801-1808 and 1827-1836, for each month of these years, January-December.

The results were discussed in the Bakerian Lecture, 'On the tides at the Port of London', by John William Lubbock, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.126 (1836), pp.217-266.

The volume commences with a heading and extended note [pp.3-4] by John William Lubbock: 'London-Dock Tide Computations Part I Calendar Months. Contianing the time and height of high water at the London Docks, the Sun's and Moon's Declinations & the Moon's Horizontal Parallax corresponding to the apparent Solar Time of the Moon's Transit...'. An additional note [also p.3-4] states that: 'The computations contained in this Book were made by Mr. E. Russell under Mr. Lubbock's directions, the expence being defrayed out of a grant of money placed at Mr. Lubbock's disposal by the British Association for the Advancement of Science'.
