An additional note [also p.3-4] states that: 'The computations contained in this Book were made by Mr. E. Russell March 1837 under Mr. Lubbock's directions, the expence being defrayed out of a grant of money placed at Mr. Lubbock's disposal by the British Association for the Advancement of Science'.
