Description | Daily observations at hourly intervals at Singapore. Readings of the declination magnetometer, bifilar magnetometer uncorrected and corrected, its attached thermometer, vertical force magnetometer and its attached thermometer; with a vertical force magnetometer corrected for temperature, an uncorrected barometer and its attached thermometer, corrected barometer, dry and wet thermometers, dry and wet thermometers in the shade ['in verandah'], standard thermometer, and exposed thermometer. With elasticity of vapour at the temperature of the hygrometer, elasticity of vapour at the temperature of dew point [four observations per day], minimum temperature, solar and terrestrial radiation, with hourly observations of solar radiation and hourly observations of the actimometer. There are also term day observations, commencing at 10.00p.m. on 25 November and concluding at 9.00p.m. on 26 November [Gottingen mean time], with readings of the magnetometers, barometer, wet and dry thermometers, standard thermometer and solar radiation, with cloud cover and general remarks.
The declination and bifilar magnetometer sheets have duplicate entries for the corresponding instrument records for December 1843.
Each sheet is headed: 'Observatory at Singapore. Abstract of hourly observations....' or 'Abstract of Term-day observations...'. Signed on each page 'C.M. Elliot Lt. Engineers'. , Inscribed [p.32]: 'Magnetic. Singapore November 1843'. |
