Description | Table of daily meteorological observations, made at 8.00am, 2.00pm and 8.00pm. With columns for phases of the Moon, day and hour, barometric pressure, attached and extrenal thermometers, pluviometer, wind direction and force, weather, and general remarks. At the end of each month there is a summary of mean observations, signed by T.J. Lepreiere. An additional sheet [pp.17-19] contains winter solstice observations taken hourly, from 6.00am on 21 June to 6.00pm on 22 June 1840.
Each monthly sheet is headed by variations of the text: 'Meteorological Register kept at Port Arthur Van Diemen's Land by Deputy Assistant Commissary General Lemperiere during the month of...'. A pencil note [p.1]: states 'The original sent to Royal Society 20th Sept. 1841'. There is a paper wrapper, inscribed: '(Duplicate) Meteorological Register From February 1 1840 to January 31 1841.
