Description | Responding to a letter of 6 September. States he is willing to join Sharepy in anticipating the permission to Dr [Henry John] Carter, which the Council are ready ro give, and to have a copy made from his paper in the archives.
Whilst away in Llandovery, has received a telegram informing him of Lewis's[?] sudden ill health, at the age of 86. Anticipates Sharpey has read [John Frederic La Trobe] Bateman's scheme for the Channel Railway. Informs Captain Richards has sent him letters from [William Benjamin] Carpenter and [Charles Wyville] Thomson expressing their satisfaction with the Porcupine and their results so far. Believes Sharpey has heard of the success which has attended the first employment of the Melbourne Telescope and the discovery of the new position of the nebula intermediate between the Earth and fixed stars. |
