| Description | Updates on the progress of research and the expidition. Says that team morale is good which was his main concern at the beginning of the project. Expresses slight annoyance that members of the Royal Society keep assuming the project is based on Lake Katwe and explains that there is a post office based at Lake Katwe which is why the address is located there.
Explains his research into Haplochromis communities found in Lake George documenting feeding habits of the different species. Use of the gill net in his work means that 'any reference to the fish numbers is only in terms of relative populations'. Updates on team work he is conducting with Lesley McGowan on 24 hour feeding cycles. Notes that majority of Haplochromis are 'ripe or very ripe females of three or four species' and theorises that they use the benthos-rich habitats as feeding grounds.
Asks for clarification and course of action for the future of the 'establishment' at Lake George. Says he has written a detailed memo to John Lund and says that there is more work being done on Lake George than in either Jinja or Malacca. Asks if there is an idea of when the project will end. He wants to avoid a situation where workers do not know what timeline they have and says that all are currently working towards the deadline of 12-18 months. |
