| Description | Silver-gilt ceremonial mace, decorated with a pattern of roses and thistles on the stem, and embossed figures of a rose, harp, thistle and fleur-de-lys on the head. Engraved letters 'C.R.' denote Charles II, and an inscription on a shield at the base describes Charles II as the Society's 'founder and patron'. Inscribed: 'EX Munificientia Augustissimi Monarcha Carola II Dei Gra: Mag: Brit: Fran: et Hib: Regis & c Societatis Regalia ad Scientiam Naturalem Promovenda instituta, Fundatoris et Patroni An DM 1663' |
