| Description | Lloyd apologises that he was unable to see Sabine in Brussels, and notes he has retuned from an ‘agreeable tour’ in the alps. Lloyd spent some time in Munich on his way home, and saw [Johann von] Lamont and his new devices. Lloyd expresses his opinion on Lamont’s registering apparatus and notes it is not as good as the photographic method, in which Mr [Henry] Barrow has removed many of the difficulties. Lloyd asks Sabine’s opinion regarding the government observations and offers his suggestion to register only one magnetical instrument, the declination magnetometer, and discusses his reasons for this. Mr [George Biddell] Airy would like to register all the instruments at Greenwich. Lloyd’s brother has gotten ‘his registered majority’. |
