| Description | Lloyd has started investigating the feasibility and accuracy of his project for observing the magnetic intensity. Lloyd sends Sabine a memorandum [not enclosed] for Mr [Henry] Barrow regarding the completion of the dip circle. Lloyd’s plan is to observe the dip and the force with the same instrument. This method is independent of the changes in the force of the bar. Lloyd hopes to draw up a description of his method for the [Royal Irish] Academy. The method is to deflect the needle at a short distance, and in a new position and using the deflector as a statical needle with a weight. Lloyd discusses the advantages of this method for the travelling observer, such as lack of numerous instruments needed. |
