Title | Letter from Humphrey Lloyd, 7 Warwick Street, London to Charles James Buchanan Riddell |
Date | 14 October 1842 |
Description | Lloyd informs Riddell of his concerns regarding the portable magnetic instruments and insists that more modifications are needed. Lloyd discusses his opinions on the portable magnetic instrument and changes that could be adopted by Riddell. Discussion on Lamonts method, and Lloyd informs Riddell, that this method of observing the absolute intensity is preferable to their original plan. Lloyd recommends using the induction inclinometer for measuring absolute intensity, as well as the instruments for the changes of declination and horizontal force should be boxes of copper similar to the box of the inclinometer. Discussion on additional changes neccesary for experiments of vibration and for the absolute declination. Lloyd describe changes he has made to the box for horizontal force. |
