| Description | Lloyd agrees with [Edward] Sabine regarding the part of Riddell’s instructions relating to dip observations, only those who thoroughly understand what they are dealing with should be allowed to make use of incomplete observations. Discussion on the log indices.
Lloyd discusses Riddell’s remarks on Lloyd’s instruments. Lloyd notes that the instrument is for his own particular use, therefore details should be omitted or altered for instruments intended for general use. Lloyd recommends a circle of six inches, divided to 20, and the induction bar should not be a necessary part of the apparatus. Discussion on the name of the instrument. Lloyd does not agree with the name induction inclinometer and what it suggests, rather declination and intensity apparatus would be more suitable, however theodolite magnetometer would be a better name.
Lloyd does not agree with Riddell’s reasons for performing with two separate instruments. |
