TitleCopy letter, John William Lubbock, Treasurer of the Royal Society, to Captain [Francis] Beaufort
Date29 September 1832
DescriptionLubbock has often requested that the initials of the observer should be annexed to the observations of the tides, together with how the exact time was obtained and from what line the tide heights were measured. He presumes that this has escaped Beaufort's recollection or there is some difficulty. Lubbock cannot publish any material in which these details are lacking. He asks if an official letter from Council should be sent to obtain the information. In a postscript, he notes that the last two points of information were present from Sheerness, but not from the Plymouth or Portsmouth observations.
