Description | Cutting is an inclosure to the Secretary of the Admiralty [See MS/427/432]. Resolution 5: On the suggestion of Dr. Warren de la Rue and seconded by Prof. [Charles] Pritchard. Having been shown the insufficient optical resources at the Observatory by the Astronomer Royal [William Henry Mahoney Christie], it was unanimously agreed to recommend to the Admiralty to replace the telescope with one with 28 inch aperture glass, and mount it so it faces the South East Equatorial position, at a cost of £4000. States that the current state of the observatory is inferior to others in Europe and America, and installing the new telescope will save £9000. Resolution 6: That the Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the Royal Observatory should communicate resolution 5 to the Admiralty. |
