| Title | Letter from Sir William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, to the Treasurer [Alffed Bray Kempe] |
| Creator | Huggins; Sir; William (1824-1910); British astronomer |
| Recipient | Kempe; Sir; Alfred Bray (1849-1922) |
| Date | 27 March 1903 |
| Description | Marked 'Quite Private'. Sends Kempe the enclosed letter and two enclosures from [Sir Clements] Markham. Is satisfied that the 'Discovery' is safe and has done good work, but believes their instructions to [Robert Falcon] Scott were clear, and he should not remain for a second year unless the ship is trapped in ice. Huggins suspected all along that Scott had secret instructions from Markham to remain a second year. Asks if the Royal Society jointly responsible with the Royal Geographical Society for the additional £15,000 required. |
