Title | Letter from Sir Clements Markham, 21 Eccleston Square to [Alfred Bray] Kempe |
Creator | Markham; Sir; Clements Robert (1830-1916); President of the Royal Geographical Society |
Date | 16 February 1903 |
Description | Has added the word '"practically"' to the draft letter to [Robert Falcon] Scott as Kempe had suggested. He intended to get the Finance Committee's approval for the £2000 credit for Scott before the letter was written up, and merely sent the draft to Sir William Huggins for his general approval. He hopes £2000 will be enough as coal is 25s per ton, and Scott will need 300 tons for each ship, plus costs for refitting and provisions. Asks if a committee meeting should be called, or if the proposal could be circulated to committee members for their approval. |
