Description | Family transcription of Sir John Herschel's original diary. The volume describes Herschel's scientific and social life, the year commencing with Herschel working at projecting his catalogue of Southern nebulae into a chart. From February, Herschel becomes engaged on British Museum business. The diary contains routine meteorological and astronomical observations, including sight of Gibson's Comet on 11 June. Ada Lovelace and Lady Byron are noted briefly on 14 June. The volume concludes with a list of expenses.
