| Title | Letter from J J [Joseph John] Thomson, Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Thomson; Sir Joseph John (1856-1940); British physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 13 August 1902 |
| Description | Of the four men mentioned in Larmor's letter for possible Indian Meteorological appointment he has varying knowledge of each. Brown is an able astronomer but perhaps not a meteorologist. [Louis Napoleon George] Filon is industrious but not original. [Lewis Fry] Richardson is able, but very young. None strike him as strong candidates. Of all the possible candidates he can think of, C.T.R. [Charles Thomson Rees] Wilson would be a sensible choice. Thomson gives an extended assessment of his abilities. He also mentions [Charles] Chree as an excellent official. He would place Chree below Wilson, but both above the others. |
