TitleLetter from Robert Harrison, the Royal Society, Burlington House, London, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorHarrison; Robert William Frederick (1858-1945); British assistant secretary of the Royal Society
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date3 June 1905
DescriptionHe does not know what steps Larmor will take in the discussion started at the Statutes Committee, since Harrison was required to withdraw from it, and will be excluded from future meetings. He wishes to make his own position clear to Larmor and the other Officers, and to the Committee. He refers back to the report on the committee for the scheme of administration, the report of which was accepted by Council three years ago. This, and its result in the status of the Asistant Secretary, made him abandon any efforts he may have made to obtain other employment. The report reassured him and he had regarded it as the charter for the Assistant Secretary's status. Any modification of its effect would be a breach of faith, he believes, and the mere fact that the Statutes Committee is deliberating his status again has shaken his confidence. He has spoken to the Treasurer and to Sir Archibald Geikie and to [George] Darwin. He encloses a copy of the previous report [not present].
