| Title | Letter from Maurice F [Frederick] Fitzgerald, Queen's College, Belfast, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | FitzGerald; Maurice Frederick (1850-1927); Irish engineer |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 8 March 1901 |
| Description | He excuses the paper and thanks Larmor for his letter. [John Pentland] Mahaffy will get particulars from William Jellett. The latter agrees with Fitzgerald that it is absurd to lay down conditions when dealing with such a matter with the Crown and no such grants have ever been given. In a postscript, he writes that if there is nothing unfitting in his letter to Larmor in response to the 'Nature' article, it can go into the Royal Society notice whole, although it was not written for that purpose. The anecdotes of his father arose incidentally, as some in Belfast thought he was a scientist rather than a clergyman. He asks to see his letter again before reaching a conclusion. |
