| Description | He is glad to have had the opportunty to read [Charles] Chree's letters. It is obvious that the Royal Society should safeguard the inteests of Kew [Observatory] staff. In view of scientific efficiency, Kew shoudl be put alongside the Meteorological Office and this is what impresses [Arthur] Schuster and [George] Darwin. [William Napier] Shaw's attitude does not encourage Geikie to hope that transference would benefit Kew and its staff. The Royal Society should not give up supervision by the Gassiot Committee. Chree is kept in complete subordination by [Richard Tetley] Glazebrook, and Geikie expresses suspicions of the co-ordination between Glazebrook and Shaw. He is unhappy about the situation but sees no reason to yield to their pressure. |
