| Description | Geikie has written to the Home Secretary and included all of Larmor's points, asking when the King could receive them. He has also written to Mr. [Herbert Henry] Asquith putting a strong case for Lady [Margaret] Huggins, with the supporting opinions of Councils of the Royal Society and Royal Astronomical Society. A formal memorial about this was in preparation. Geikie still feels they should be in possession of more definite information on Lady Huggins' circumstances. The subject is delicate, but she should understand that the information would be for the eyes of the Prime Minister alone. Church has suggested Waterlows to illuminate a page of the Charter Book for Royal signature, and the company will leave a specimen of their work at the Royal Society. He encloses a 'fussy lucubration' from E.B. [Edward Ball] Knobel, one of the Board of Visitors. He cannot think why the Admiralty would communicate through Knobel, as the Hydrographer should have communiated directly with the Chairman of the Board. [David] Gill is worthy of nomination but the thing is now a fait accompli. |
