It is happy that Larmor and [Ernest William] Hobson represent the two sides of mathematics, pure and applied, so that many mathematicians will be drawn to the event. He comments on the intended spirit of the occasion, showing appreciation of Larmor's achievements, and he hopes Larmor will attend, despite his private reservations about celebrating birthdays. Hobson has expressed himself delighted by the idea. |
