TitleLetter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, Haslemere, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorGeikie; Sir Archibald (1835-1924); British geologist and historian
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date14 August 1913
DescriptionHe hopes his letter will catch Larmor and he is glad that Larmor is to go to Pontresina. He will go to Birmingham afterwards and Geikie hopes to Ardkinglas. He was afraid that [Arthur] Schuster's illness might delay Walker's operations, but he will proceed. Geikie saw [Francis Alexander] Towle, who was in communication with Walker about instruments. Geikie has written to 'The Times', followed by [Herbert Hall] Turner. Geikie wrote to him and to [John] Perry. The former stated that the matter should be discussed at Birmingham. On asking whether [John] Milne had left a competent assistant to carry on his observations, and J.H. [James Howard] Burgess is fit to do that for some weeks. Geikie was pleased that Larmor is going to the British Association meeting. He is of the opinion that Milne's work should continue, funded by 'private liberality' and the aid of societies. He thinks that Government should increase the Grant to £5,000, charging the Royal Society to continue Milne's work
