TitleLetter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, Shepherd's Down, Haslemere, Surrey, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorGeikie; Sir Archibald (1835-1924); British geologist and historian
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date10 September 1914
DescriptionLarmor has been much in his thoughts 'in this terrible time of distress and anxiety'. He wonders if Larmor will go to Antrim, and his own holiday plans have been disrupted. There is anxiety about friends and relatives in France, and so he has stayed at home, taking on local committee work. His house has turned into a clothing establishment, directing the sewing of women in the village: 'Everybody is doing something for our wounded and for the destitute of Belgium'. Geikie has managed some literary work. His study of Catullus will appear in the next 'Quarterly', and he is in the midst of a longer paper on Horace at his Sabine farm. He would be glad to hear from Larmor.
