Description | William Huggins is very interested in Larmor's results regarding comets' tails.He states that the 'brightness of Comets' tales varies enormously'. This causes Huggins to recall the 1881 attempt to determine brighness in terms of moonlight by Janssen 'of Tebbutt's Comet'. He then discusses his photographs which have revealed N, and he has also detected Fraunhofer lines. He is sending a private letter of condolence to [Marie] Curie for the shock passing of her husband [Pierre Curie]. Lastly, Huggins discusses the treatment of uranium residue, and the expense of this. Margaret Huggins is saddened for [Marie] Curie and shares her reflections on loneliness in sorrow. She comments on how enjoyable she finds Larmor's letters and that he misses his secretarial correspondence with her husband. She ends with a joke about the Comet of 1881. |
