Title | Letter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West] London, to the Secretary [Joseph Larmor] |
Creator | Huggins; Sir William (1824-1910); British astronomer |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 23 August 1908 |
Description | Huggins encourages Larmor to take the Mastership position, as it would suit his personality and skills, and Huggins feels that his position as Professor alone would not be enough to satisfy him when his Royal Society duties come to an end. Huggins describes Larmor as someone who 'would yearn for a wider sphere of influence' and needs 'more social life, for you enjoy giving and receiving hospitality'. Huggins is very confident in Larmor's skills to take on this position, although would be sorry for the loss for the Royal Society. |
