| Description | Huggins has written to [Hugh Frank] Newall at Larmor's suggestion. He then discusses the matter of the instruments: Huggins is sure that [Arthur] Schuster would like to hold them at Manchester and would provide 'a building and dome' for them, and Huggins also prefers this option. He will write to Schuster, and states that Larmor may let Newall know he can have the telescopes. Huggins feels Larmor should publish an independent booklet of his work on the life of Lord Kelvin, as it is 'far too illuminating to be hidden away under the bushel of the Proceedings'. He then notes he has receieved a photograph from [George Ellery] Hale, in which 'it is a matter of significance that the spots [sunspots] with rotations in opposite directions, are on opposite sides of the sun's equator. He asks if there is truth to the rumour that Lodge will receive an honourary degree from Cambridge. He is critical of how the Chancellor runs the university. |
