Title | Letter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West] London, to the Secretary [Joseph Larmor] |
Creator | Huggins; Sir William (1824-1910); British astronomer |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 8 November 1908 |
Description | He encloses [Hugh Frank] Newall's reply, and notes the mutual motion passed to accept the telescopes on the Royal Society's conditions, and that a dome is provided. Huggins would like to have Larmor's work on Kelvin's life published by Cambridge and believes it 'ought to be on permanent sale'. He thinks the print and scale should be the same size as the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society'. He supposes S [Silvanus Phillips] Thompson's book will be regarded as the authorized 'life', and ponders if Larmor's work appeared with it in the appendix. He thanks Larmor for the suggestions regarding [George Ellery] Hale's work. He sees the difficulty with regards to the 'thermal source of spectra' and discusses this further. He notes with regret that [William Edward] Ayrton is gravely ill. |
