Title | Letter from Horace Lamb, Medindee, Burton Road, Didsbury, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lamb; Sir Horace (1849-1934); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 16 May 1894 |
Description | He thanks Larmor for his corrections [to Hydrodynamics]. Lamb is reduced to 'Least Action' and has tried to leave as few loopholes for doubt as possible. He gives points to note on his proof sheets, saying that he will one day write out a general proof of [Joseph-Louis] Legrange's equations for all cases where they do apply. Their own part of the proof ought to be simplified, which is the reason not to put it into the book. He has cut the sheet on vortex motion; the rest of the book 'is waves and tides and billions of bubbles'. He returns Larmor's manuscript.
