| Title | Letter from W D [William Davidson] Niven, Royal Naval College, Greenwich, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Niven; Sir William Davidson (1842-1917); British mathematician |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 14 July 1898 |
| Description | Thanking Larmor for a prompt reply. This year he had a candidate pronounced by [William] Burnside to be better than any for some time, but the marks brought him below the lowest of last year. He proposes to add a quarter mark to each of Larmor's examination papers. [Horace] Lamb thinks that one quarter should be added to the pure mathematics and one half to the hydrodynamics. This should unify between the two examiners. |
