TitleLetter from H M [Hector Munro] Macdonald, 52 College Bounds, Aberdeen, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorMacdonald; Hector Munro (1865-1935); British mathematician
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date4 March 1913
DescriptionHe is forwarding the documents on the essay subjects, agreeing with Larmor's draft of the fluid motion subject, provided it is clear that the treatment of special cases is allowed. Such cases can be solved, and if not leading to a complete theory on the motion of a solid through a fluid, would help in answering the question Macdonald suggested. He is doubtful about the inclusion of viscosity as its effect would only be in the immediate neighbourhood of a solid. He is sorry that Larmor is in so much need of a rest and hopes that Rome will help. He notes his own immediate workload and the plans of Lamb and Niven.
