Title | Letter from H M [Hector Munro] Macdonald, 52 College Bounds, Aberdeen, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Macdonald; Hector Munro (1865-1935); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 26 March 1915 |
Description | [William Mitchison] Hicks sent the forms to him for signature, awarding the prize to [Geoffrey Ingram] Taylor. He will hold it until he has Larmor's further opinion, as he is not quite convinced that the [Adams] prize should be awarded. Larmor will have noticed that the essay has been published in part in the Philosophical Transactions ['Eddy motion in the atmosphere'], with the same mathematics 'and other blunders uncorrected'. The part on instability has the error which Macdonald pointed out and which destroys Taylor's argument. He does not like the idea of endorsing it and wants Larmor's view. |
