Title | Letter from Herbert McLeod, the Royal Society, Burlington House, London, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | McLeod; Herbert (1841-1923); British chemist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 12 February 1917 |
Description | He asks Larmor if he knows of anyone who might purchase his Edmondson's circular calculating machine. He notes one slight defect, saying that it is at the Royal Society, and cost £25. He supposes that Larmor saw the review of volume XV in 'Nature' [referring to the Catalogue of Scientific Papers], which was appreciative, but the reviewer did not not notice the smaller type, so that his estimate of the number of volumes for the period compared to the previous ones was wrong. The last seventeen years of the century produced more papers than the earlier part. There was also a good article in the Westminster Saturday Review. McLeod hopes that Larmor is well, but knows little of what is going on. He is glad that the Government is not supressing the representation of the older universities. Sylvanus Thompson used to visit McLeod often; 'I miss him very much'. |
