TitleLetter from R [Raphael] Meldola, City & Guilds of London Institute, Technical College, Finsbury, Leonard Street, City Road, London, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorMeldola; Raphael (1849-1915); British chemist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date15 May 1902
DescriptionHe refers Larmor to a 'very nasty review' of the Encyclopaedia Britannica supplementary volumes in the Times Literary Supplement. The writer is said to be Professor [Thomas] Case of Oxford who 'runs foul of the whole spirit of modern science'. The whole article is written in 'a spirit of insolence & arrogance' Meldola thinks, savouring of medieval theologians. Larmor's articles came in for particular attention. Meldola has sent it to 'Nature' to see if [Joseph Norman] Lockyer would take it up, but Lockyer does not think it politic to assault 'The Times'. Meldola conveys his anger, and does not know if it is worthwhile Larmor entering into a controversy, but calls his attention to the article in case he has missed it.
